Orthodox Rabbinate of the Jewish Community of Oslo (Det Mosaiske Trossamfund)DMT
Oslo, Norway
Mark: Kosher certification stamp issued by the Jewish Community of Oslo for certified facilities. Note: products on the community's domestic 'Kosher List' (koshernorway.shop) are not stamped — the list is based on verified producer/ingredient information rather than an on-pack symbol.
Recognized endorsed by 1 major authority
Full reliability (Orthodox). Certifies Norwegian production facilities for food export (primarily to USA and Israel), community kitchens, senior center, kindergarten, and kosher catering. Performs its own internationally recognized certification and also certifies facilities on behalf of the Orthodox Union (OU). Note: shechita (kosher slaughter) has been banned in Norway since 1929, so kosher meat is imported; the local authority does not certify slaughter.
Chief Rabbi of Norway / posek: Rabbi Joav Melchior (succeeded his father Rabbi Michael Melchior). The rabbinate supervises Oslo's kosher provisioning including 'Kosher Mat', the only kosher market in Oslo, located in the basement of the Jewish community center adjacent to the Oslo Synagogue. This is the local Norwegian authority, distinct from Sweden. The Trondheim Jewish community (the world's northernmost) is part of the broader Det Mosaiske Trossamfund framework of Norwegian Jewry but kosher provisioning supervision is centered on the Oslo rabbinate. The community also maintains a domestic 'Kosher List' (koshernorway.shop, also available as PDF) identifying products it has verified as kosher, since the small Norwegian market makes paid certification of most products uneconomical.
How to use this safely: a listing here is not an endorsement. Only trust an authority if one you (or your community) already follow recognizes it — see the “endorsed by” tags above. Standards vary by community and by individual ruling, so always confirm with your rav.
